Deputy Head's Welcome

Nick Rothwell, Deputy Head at Mount Kelly School Hong KongI am pleased that you have taken the time to read about Mount Kelly School Hong Kong and what it has to offer. I have been very lucky to be part of the school from its very inception two years ago, and it is wonderful to see how much it has grown and developed over this short period of time.

The school takes much of its values and beliefs from our sister school in the UK, but we have developed our own community in Hong Kong. We are lucky to be located in a very multi-cultural city with many exciting activities and opportunities available to our students within Asia. Our position in the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Kowloon gives us great access to local facilities and many museums.

Our dynamic, talented staff offer an English Curriculum from Years 1 to 8 that encourages our students to have a love of learning. The varied curriculum across 14 subjects gives our children the chance to explore the modern world as well as gain in confidence, resilience and independence. Our teachers are very committed to nurturing and providing a platform for the children to grow and develop into mature, well-educated and polite young men and women. Our smaller class sizes ensure that we can focus on tailoring their education to their needs as well as giving them great pastoral care. Our Academic studies are very important, but we also need to give our children the skills and tools to succeed in life.

We take great pride in recognising every child’s achievement, whether it be inside or outside the classroom. Our House system is classically British and gives the students the opportunity to collaborate and work together to achieve success through our rewards system and whole school competitions. The school educates everyone on British Values and work hard to instil good manners and etiquette amongst each other.

I would like to see Mount Kelly embed itself in Hong Kong as one of the leading British International Schools. I want us to be well known for creating children who are well equipped to deal with any problems that life may throw at them. It is important for children to have the opportunity to be creative, be exposed to new challenges, lead their peers and be an example for others to follow. At Mount Kelly, we want to give them the skills to succeed and be good citizens of the future.
